First Assembly of God

Tested and Strengthened

Read Luke 3:1 through 4:15

Published: Sep 26, 2017

Those who witnessed Jesus’ baptism saw and heard God’s declaration that Jesus is His Son. Soon after this, the Holy Spirit led Jesus into the desert to be tested and tempted by Satan. Christ passed those tests and returned from them empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside (Luke 4:14).

Many people don’t realize that the Holy Spirit actively participated throughout the series of events in Luke 3 and 4. He was with Jesus the whole time, guiding and strengthening Him. Tests and temptations can bring strength and empowerment to a Christian’s life.

God wants us to see testing as an opportunity rather than just a struggle. Tests provide the opportunity to learn to trust God more fully. They help us discover the strength God can provide for those of us who faithfully persevere in those times of testing.

Thought for Today: The Holy Spirit wants to use the tests and temptations of life to draw Christians closer to Christ.
